ARTIST STATEMENT
Still Life, as a particular genre, began with Netherlandish painting of the 16th and 17th centuries and the English term still life derives from the Dutch word stilleven. One advantage of the still-life art form is that it allows me as a photographer freedom to experiment with the arrangement of elements within a composition of landscape as object. I combine body parts as still life elements without objectifying sexuality.

Throughout the centuries women have been represented in art predominantly through the 'male gaze', or from a man's point of view.
The Sapphosophy Archive hopes to show another perspective, 'the female gaze', or the women's point of view, by publishing lesbian comment on imagery in art, we hope to address the imbalance in art documentation. We welcome your art works. We are interested in women artists and would love to have any news, views and comment. If you would like to contribute please visit our wanted page.
